I loved this post about visiting the teens and giving them the gift of journal writing. Journal writing can be very powerful, especially for young people. I soo can't wait to get my hands on this book! It sounds so wonderful. I've been wanting it for a while, but the more I hear about it, the more I can't wait to read it. I'm so glad you found Mrs. Brownworth! Teachers can make all the difference.

My 4th grade teacher, Avis Clay, also had a huge influence on me.

Like Leslie, I didn't think of myself as a writer, at least not a creative one.

When I was teaching 4th grade myself (of course inspired by Mrs. Clay), I took a workshop on teaching poetry writing to children. During that time, I started writing poetry. I wrote a poem about Mrs. Clay and sent it to her. She then visited my 4th grade class and I was able to introduce my students to the woman who was responsible for me choosing to be their teacher.

Every child needs a Mrs. Brownworth or Mrs. Clay.

I have an agent mate who is a year and a half in front of me, publication-wise. She has been great for questions and wisdom. Plus we've become critique partners, which is a plus.
